The Gathering Place
The Gathering Place is a non-profit, community-based cancer support center that offers a wide variety of programs and services addressing the social, emotional, physical and spiritual needs of individuals with cancer, their families and friends. The mission of The Gathering Place is that we are a caring community that supports, educates and empowers individuals and families touched by cancer through programs and services provided free of charge.
The Gathering Place has two extensive education centers that include lending libraries with over 2,500 books, tapes and videos. Public lectures by local experts offer the latest information on cancer treatments and complementary medicine. The full-time professional medical librarian will help you research any questions you may have on cancer and its treatment, whether you are newly diagnosed or a long-term survivor.
The Gathering Place offers support groups to help people cope with the emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis. There are general groups for all cancer types, and specific groups for individuals with breast cancer, leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, prostate cancer, and for teens with cancer and young adults with cancer.
Gentle movement classes and healing touch methods can aid in the management of stress and the side effects of cancer and its treatment. Yoga, Tai Chi, Massage, Reiki and Reflexology are available for individuals with all types of cancer and their loved ones. Our Exercise Programs help combat cancer related fatigue and our Nutrition Classes provide information on incorporating healthy eating into one’s lifestyle.
We encourage the whole family to participate at The Gathering Place. There are age appropriate support groups, education classes, and social activities for children who have a loved one with cancer, and specialized caring staff to help families every step of the way.
